Subject: RHIC One-Day Site Visit - Agenda Topics

Dear Dr. Mueller –

As discussed, the date for the NP one-day site visit to RHIC is scheduled for September 15, 2020. As we are still uncertain of how travel will be affected, please be sure when arranging local logistics to prepare for a virtual meeting with full video capabilities. Once we have more information, we will confirm the format for the meeting.

Please begin to draft an agenda for the visit – you should focus on topics which you believe are the most important and useful to both parties. Once the draft agenda has been prepared please send this input to me for distribution – I will collect comments from all relevant staff within the NP office and will act as your point of contact for the agenda. For your consideration when preparing the agenda, the following discussion items have been suggested by NP for inclusion; however, you should add other topics which you wish to discuss:

  • Report on progress and status of effort to complete the high priority analyses of PHENIX data including coordination between BNL and PHENIX collaboration management and status of 2016 dataset production.
  • Discussion of data preservation might be useful.  As the RHIC program winds down we have an opportunity to construct a proper model of how data _and_ software should be preserved for potential future use.  Something beyond tapes sitting in silos.
  • Status of the CeC PoP cooling experiment.
  • sPHENIX quick update
  • A discussion of their management of CE funds including funds for the MVTX sPHENIX upgrade and its integration including a brief note on other institutional support.
  • Scientific priorities through final years of RHIC Ops
  • Collaboration strategies to ensure completion of priority analyses post RHIC operations
  • Preparations for sPHENIX and STAR Forward science programs
  • Plans for RHIC infrastructure maintenance through the transition to EIC
  • COVID -19 impacts on research program
  • Impacts of planned funding to EIC on research efforts and accelerator group
  • Strategy for completing and ramping down STAR program

Please send me the draft agenda with any additional items suggested by you or other RHIC participants by August 10th. If you have any questions, we would be happy to schedule a call to discuss the topics above.

Thanks,
Cassie
