Hi folks,

I found a way to ask G4 about the actual volume occupied by scintillators and steel and looked at this as function of the crossing number. The attached plots show the result. The outer hcal does not have the cutout for the magnet here. As you can see it doesn't change much for the outer hcal but it does for the inner when you go to extremes (15 crossings crashes the calculation of the steel).

But it is smooth and the discontinuities in our eta dependence where some crossings are on top of each other and then there is a jump shouldn't be there. But the phi dependence has some quirks caused by the geometry. That'll be for Monday.
