Hi Ron,

Very nice!  Two questions, both aimed at extracting numbers that we can implement in the HCAL simulations:

(1) Do you know the width of the pedestals (in pe's) in your setup? For the HCAL simulations right now we've assumed a width of 8pe's and making a 2-sigma cut on tower energies. This was just a guess,  so it might be nice to tie what we are using to a number from a test bench.

(2) On slide 5 (LED scan) you show a beautiful scan of the full tile.  I was looking at this and wondering if this could be used to get a map of the MIP response.  Would it make sense to use the LED map as a relative response and just normalize it to the cosmics MIP response at a few locations (like what you have on the previous two slides)?  Do you think this would yield a reasonable light yield map that could be used in the Monte Carlo?

If so it might be useful to get that from your data and try to implement it in the MC. Of course this is just one tile shape, but maybe we think about a logical way to scale between different sizes.  This may be too much of an extrapolation, but it the absence of anything better it might be a start.

Regards,
John

Hi All,

I've uploaded a brief set of slides showing the first results from the big tile tests to my phenix/p/draft area: https://www.phenix.bnl.gov/WWW/p/draft/belmonrj/HCal/bigtile.pdf

Comments and suggestions are welcome!  If you're not on PHENIX but would like to have a look, please let me know and I'll send them to you directly.

Cheers,

Ron
