Hi John,
That is right. I’d be happy to keep the existing plugs: we have already accommodated for the shortcomings of the original design for the 60 preproduction assemblies; and I don’t think Rich’s modifications will introduce any non-uniformity across the detector as far as light transmission is concerned. In any case, I think it would be a bad idea to hold off preproduction assembly for these modifications. So if we can all agree on this, let’s keep the existing plugs for preproduction.
For production, Rich’s changes would be preferred because it will save us to glue 260 sleeves onto the fiber bundles and Sal (or somebody else) to plastic-melt-attach the diffusers to 260 plugs before he can super-glue them in. So if we have not ordered those 260 plugs (or—in case we have—Uniplast hasn’t produced them and would allow us these modifications), we should go ahead with these modifications. If we can agree on that as well, who knows the status of this order (I don’t), and who is putting this order through? Is that GSU?
Regards,
Stefan

In general I think it just generally good practice to keep everything the same, but I understand from Stefan that he is happy with the modifications he made for the first six sectors? We need to come to closure on this – do we order new parts for the preproduction sectors?JohnFrom: sPHENIX-HCal-l <sphenix-hcal-l-bounces AT lists.bnl.gov> On Behalf Of Ruggiero, Richard

Subject: [Sphenix-hcal-l] Proposed Changes to Fiber PlugHi All,I’ve made a few changes to the Fiber Plug detail (see attached drawings). I added a step for the fiber ferule to be inserted to the proper distance from the diffuser. I also decreased the diameter of the diffuser counter bore to give Sal an easier time gluing them in place. Comments? Suggestions?Rich
