Dear sPHENIX / New RHIC Detector IB and Collaboration, It is my pleasure to announce that the IB has endorsed the Spokesperson(s) Nominating Committee (SNC) by a unanimous vote of 39-0 plus one abstention. I welcome the SNC and thank Huan Huang for agreeing to chair the committee. I encourage members of the Collaboration to address suggestions that you may have for nominees to committee members. Sevil Salur, salur AT physics.rutgers.edu Since the IB has completed its vote and endorsed the Bylaws Committee, and since the Bylaws Committee will determine the process by which the Spokesperson(s) is chosen, the Spokesperson Nominating Committee will need to wait for final compilation of the slate of nominees until the Bylaws Committee proposes the process, length of term (at least for the first spokesperson), and function of the spokesperson. Bill Zajc as Chair of the Bylaws Committee, which has been formed, has promised that to be their first item of business. In the meantime, I have asked the Spokesperson Nominating Committee members and received their agreement to serve. The task for the Spokesperson Nominating Committee is to identify members of the collaboration, appropriate for the task, who after their confirmation to serve can be placed on the slate of candidates for consideration by the IB and collaboration. You will note the slide prepared for the IB Meeting regarding "Spokesperson Qualities", which I have attached. The goal is to reach a slate of candidates by the time of the Collaboration Meeting (Dec 10 - 12), such that an election can be held sometime afterwards in December, if at all possible. I encourage everyone to start thinking about possible spokesperson candidates and to discuss with others and committee members. Thanks and regards, John |
