Friends,

Following the short, but useful discussion over at sphenix-physics-l, we
should take the next steps to establish the topical groups. We suggest that
each group will have two co-conveners to guide the organization within the
group, coordinate with the other TGs and work with the software and
simulation team to identify infrastructure needs and organize the overall
workforce.

While this plan can of course be tweaked in the future, the proposal is to
start with three topical groups, focussing on "Jet structure", "b-jet energy
loss" and "Upsilon Spectroscopy". Each group is asked to demonstrate
sPHENIX's capability to perform a state-of-the-art measurement for the
respective topic. The details of which measurement to go for, following the
discussion we already had, should be worked out in each group. The goal is
that each "money plot" being produced should clearly prove the sPHENIX
capability for one particularly ambitious measurement, which then naturally
encompasses the ability to perform various simpler day-1 and day-2
measurements along the way (e.g., if one can convincingly show good
performance for b-jet R_AA, inclusive jet R_AA, dijet A_J,... capabilities
are clearly also in hand etc etc).

To gauge interest in the three groups, we have set up a doodle poll here:

Please pick the groups you are planning to actively contribute to (or at the
very least follow closely).

Finally, please suggest your colleagues or yourself (don't be shy!) for the
convenership of these groups. We will try to get this off the ground as soon
as possible - any convener suggestions received by the end of this week will
be particularly helpful.

Cheers,

Gunther and Dave
