Professional Association Expo on Thursday, 6/15, and Friday, 6/16

Leaders from more than 10 professional associations will visit Brookhaven Lab this Thursday, June 15, and Friday, June 16.

All are invited to meet them during two events in Berkner: - Expo on Thursday, 3 – 5 p.m.
- Intro presentations on Friday, 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Note: Registration is requested for this part. Sign up with Brookhaven Lab's GalaxyConnect site (https://bnl.galaxydigital.com/event/).

These events are designed to help Lab staff and students to diversify their networks and explore new opportunities for collaborating, recruiting, and professional development.
Expo on Thursday, 6/15, 3 – 5 p.m. in Berkner
This exhibit-hall-style event will bring together leaders from each of the participating associations. Meet them all in one place. Learn about their members and programs. And maybe even join one, yourself. Registration isn't required for this event.

The associations scheduled to participate represent a number of fields relevant to science, technology, and operations at Brookhaven Lab. They include:
- American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE)
- American Chemical Society (ACS)
- Advancing Indigenous People in Stem (AISES)
- American Physical Society (APS)
- National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA)
- National Business & Disability Council at the Viscardi Center
- National Consortium of Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering (GEM)
- National Organization for the Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE)
- National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP)
- New York Women in Natural Sciences (WINS)
- Out in STEM (OSTEM)
- Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanic & Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)

Intro Presentations on Friday, 6/16, 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. in Berkner
Several associations will present 30-minute introductions to their organizations. Learn about their members, programs, and initiatives to see where your goals and theirs may align to potentially start new partnerships.

The five associations that will present are:

Reasons to Attend
By attending these events, you will help promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) at Brookhaven Lab. This is a "personal impact activity" that can contribute to your DEIA goals for your annual performance appraisal. Details (PDF: https://intranet.bnl.gov/files/pdf/DEI_PA_Goals_Guidance_Rev15.pdf, VPN may be required).

Growing your network can open new doors. These events will provide unique opportunities for you and your team to meet leaders that are passionate about excellence in their fields and creating more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible workplaces. Speak with the attendees about new ways you may be able to work together.

Helping the Lab Community Expand Its Network
These events are organized for members of the Lab community by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Office. They are part of the DEI Office's strategy and the Annual Lab Plan to expand the Laboratory's "circle of peers" by creating and strengthening relationships with professional associations to develop a more diverse workforce.

This can help everyone at the Lab work toward the discovery science and transformative technology that will power and secure the nation's future. It can also help develop new ways to meet the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science's requirement that all applications for funding include plans for promoting inclusive and equitable research.

These events were announced in Monday Memo on June 5 (https://intranet.bnl.gov/memo/news.php?a=221294, VPN may be required).

Please mark your calendar for the events on Thursday and Friday. We'd be happy for you to join us.
