Dear sPHENIX collaborators,
See below for an email from C-AD Chair Wolfram Fischer. RHIC is currently down and experts will be assessing the damage over the coming days. We expect we will have much more information to pass along soon. In the meantime, we are proceeding with our commissioning efforts.
Regards,
Dave and Gunther

Subject: RHIC off with helium leak into valve box
Dear Haiyan and Dmitri,
about two hours ago we have developed a helium leak into a valve box after all the DX heaters fired.
Helium is presently venting building 1004B. Fire/Rescue responded to the ODH alarm.
No one was in the building when the helium leak developed, and the building is now secured
and under watch until the helium leakage ends. We are unloading helium from the Blue ring
into cold Dewar's.
Warming up the valve box will likely take a few days before we can assess the damage inside.
We may not be able to repair the valve box in time for a Run-23 continuation.
Replacement of a cold diode a few years ago took 19.5 days.
