Hi Dennis,

nice slides.

The A/B scenarios that you explain on slides 12/13 in detail are shown before (Sl 7). Scenario A lists the Au+Au part as commissioning, while B lists this as physics running. You explain this on Sl 13 that part of p+p is then used for commissioning (which we will need to some extent no matter that, even in scenario A - in PHENIX we learned the hard way that p+p has much more stringent requirements than HI).

The committee might be confused about this without the later explanation. You might want to consider adding the one sentence to that effect on sl 13 earlier.

Just as background for Sl 14, with the scenario that has the Au+Au in the middle:

Each species switch will require us to physically change the oscillators in each ADC clockmaster module. We are now set for Au+Au. Starting with pp, we would need to change that, then change back for Au+Au. The in-the-middle scenario adds yet one more switch. With 3 trained people I would guess this will take about 1.5 days including all tests.

My 2cts,

Martin

Dear sPHENIX colleagues,

As you may know, the Quark Matter conference last week is immediately followed by the NPP PAC meeting on Monday morning, where sPHENIX will give an update and present our Beam Use Proposal.

I have prepared a draft set of slides for the BUP part of the presentation here: https://indico.bnl.gov/event/20316/contributions/79800/attachments/49195/84844/dvp-PAC-9-11-23-DRAFT-1.pdf <https://indico.bnl.gov/event/20316/contributions/79800/attachments/49195/84844/dvp-PAC-9-11-23-DRAFT-1.pdf> (note that a summary of commissioning is given in a separate talk by Dave)

I would be happy for any comments over the course of today.

Dennis
