Dear Joe, Jon, Paul,
Paul, Piyush, During today's meeting, we have formed a special "Strain Gauge Task Force" to study and understand how BaBar has used the strain gauges (which may or may not show any stress on the Magnet ?) such that we will know how to make use of them for sPHENIX Magnet, in the 100 A test, High-Field test and eventually the real sPHENIX configuration. It's expected that this group would dig through the existing documents, study/understand them and write a short report so that we (without reading and looking for those documents) may understand/get educated as well. ( Jon Hock was the only guy who was not in the meeting ... Jim has promised to talk to John ... ) I'd just like to point you guy to the existing documents in our BaBar server (\\bnl.gov\c-adnas\babar) : (1) Under the folder "Volume 5 DESIGN AND QUALITY CONTROL REPORT", there are : Alignment, Support Rods, Fields and Forces, Reservoir & Vacuum System.pdf Axial Mechanical Position & Tie Rod Strain Gauge Log.pdf which has a lot of things about the strain gauge (their values, calculations etc.). (2) In the top directory of the "BaBar" server, there is the "BaBar Note 233.pdf" (which was a conceptual design report, before the Magnet was made so that the nos. there were not necessarily the final one but it has a lot of educfinite-element analysis) Paul Giannotti was included partly because he knows very well all the BaBar documents lying around in the PHENIX trailer.
