sPHENIX discussion of the superconducting solenoid

The “pre-test inspection” procedures (the 1^st traveler) have been completed and I scanned the pages into PDF :

I put my name down in a few places, mainly related to the fact that we don’t another pressure test/leak check as

they Cryo group did one yesterday already.   I put the Cryo Group’s document reference (for their pressure tests) 002-16 and

wrote down the leak rate.

Tonight, when Piyush and I left the sPHENIX Magnet (in Bldg. 912), we started the DAQ (on two PC’s) and Quench Protection

at 7:46 pm with a readout freq.  of 15 minutes  and left them to run overnight, to see whether it crashed or not.   It’ll be amusing

if the Quench Protection system quenches J J

It seems that while roughing pump A on the platform worked, the roughing pump B on the platform had problem.  We are

asking electrician(s) to fix it.   ( The Cryo group could turn these two pumps on  only after the Contactors were installed

on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016. )
