Minutes shift change 2023-04-21
general (Stefan)
-----------
- Turning off rack power well before ECW bypasses were opened was not a good idea because ECW pump cannot adjust the pressure
- This is different from the behavior during PHENIX operations, were the ECW pump was able to adjust to the reduced flow when rack power was shut off
- Mid-term goal is to fix the pump configuration
- Short-term fix is to (i) not shut rack power off unless in an emergency or in controlled manner with bypasses opened first, and (ii) implement an alarm when ECW flow drops below a certain threshold
- Subsystems need to keep shift leader informed of detector work!
evening: Cameron
- ECW already discussed
- EMCal and MBD rack fault after ECW trip, no indication of cause, acknowledged, but still had to be reset in rack itself
- found TPC gas was not flowing, apparently valve wasn’t opened when bottle was changed
- TPC chiller alarm, additive empty, contacted Rob, Rob looked into it this morning
- turned off some racks
night: Charles
Plan of the day
- INTT work until 3:00am
- successively turned off rest of the racks
- at 7:30 Peter came in and informed us that racks should not have been switched off before bypasses were enabled
- chiller SW reservoir alarm, Lee aware, fixing
day: Sean
- carriage off until noon
- Mike L replaced broken flow switch in south EMCal, still need to connect interlock electrically, then test interlock before we can run LV in south
- Lee completed PLC bypass to enable future downloads
- realized that future major PLC downloads will shutdown ECW pump
- plans another shutdown to implement a bypass for that as well
- —> we need to discuss if PLC downloads will be necessary during the run
- now all racks back up
MBD (Mickey)
- testing interlocks, done with work in bore, waiting for one more electrical connection
- laser data taken, analyzing
HCal (Hanpu)
- trip of 75 % of sectors, not noticed for a while since running without bias monitoring GUI since there was a concern that bias queries make bias fluctuate
- recovered trip at first try
- bias fluctuations: investigating, looks like fluctuations not caused by bias queries, next step is to measure bias with oscilloscope (with Eric)
EMCal (Sean)
- recovering bad channels
- flow switched (see day shift report)
- exercising SiPM cooling
- no change for shift crew
TPOT (John K)
- finalized grounding scheme
- will install modified power cable next week
- factor 2 reduction of noise on North one side
TPC (Takao)
TPC (Takao)
- no activity
- John K reports that he installed a second pulser
INTT (Genki)
- replaced broken ROC
- all sensors working
- taking calibration data
- debugging of software
MVTX (Cameron)
- chiller had been replaced in chiller platform B yesterday afternoon
- flow rate back up
- still in bypass
- interlock intervention
- resuming system test today
sEPD (Ejiro)
- fibers were installed as planned
DAQ (Martin)
- crash of daq01 for unknown reason, didn’t reboot, disk end of life warning, have backup, plan to replace disk over weekend, stay away from crashing daq01 with DCMs
- see separate DAQ meeting after shift change
Magnet (Kin)
- nothing new
Gas/cooling water
- see general report above
Plan of the day
- DAQ development
- subsystem testing
- keep all racks on
