Dear sPHENIX

Here is the SCM minutes on August 6th.

*****************

General (Stefan/Kin)
Current Priority Items (PC)
• Make use of magnetic field, which we’ll have until Friday +/- 1 day:
take data with tracking detectors: TPC, MVTX, INTT, TPOT

Work Control Coordinators (Chris/Joel)
Plan of the Day (Stefan/PC/all–to be revisited at end of meeting)
• Fix the trigger and run the cosmic data taking.

========================================================================

Evening (Ross)
• took a 1M event run 3:45-8:45, went smoothly.
• Power dip ~ 9:20 brought down the magnet and switched rack room to UPS
briefly. We brought power down on all dets, then worked to restore. DAQ
issues persisted through the end of the shift.
• TPC spark detection work continued, in parallel.
Night (Joey)
• Previous shift informed us that HCal coincidence data could not be
taken due to no triggers
• Attempted to debug HCal coincidence trigger with JaeBeom, Silas
• HCal produces no waveforms, just pedestals
• Turned off HV, LV, and power cycled racks 2W2, 2E2, 3B4
• ADCs read back normal pedestal
• While moving partitioner busy cable from GTM to GTM1, bumped GTM power
switch
• Called Martin to recover, able to run LEDs shortly afterward
(without waveforms)
• Rack room temp rose to 74 by late in shift - higher than usual
Day (Tristan)
• Quiet day
• Magnet ramped back to full field
• Rack room temperature approaching 80, we called facilities and they
said they would send someone over
• Seems to be fixed, temperature down to 76 (as of 3:30pm)
• No cosmics due to issues with HCal triggers

========================================================================

Magnet (Kin)
• Magnet has been back at full field since ~11:12 am this morning.

Though the UPS protected the quench rack/computers, the 5000 A Magnet Power
Supply wasn’t, and the “power dip” (Roberto Than called it “brown-out”) was
too much for the Power Supply/Magnet and the instability eventually caused
the “fast-discharge”.

Though the two computers were not switched off, they were “screwy”. I had to
reboot both of them and restart the quench protection program (before I could
ramp). The Cryo Control Room also had to check with Roberto who called me to
confirm that it’s OK to ramp.

MBD (Mickey, Lameck)
• Nothing to report
Trigger (Dan)
• Stefan: no trigger
GTM/GL1 (Martin/Dan/John K)
DAQ (Martin/John H)
• Our UPS system did its job - the systems on UPS stayed on. Some
non-UPS’ed ones also did b/c the dip was short, but others rebooted.
• After power dip, brought readout back but were unable to get signals
from the detector (like HCal LEDs that is always my starting point after an
issue b/c it’s easy)
MVTX (Michael Peters)
• Staves were off during power dip
• Network infrastructure appeared to momentarily break, losing connection
between the shifter computer, our slow control computer, and the FELIX servers
• Some combination of manual actions (emergency shutoff button) and
automatic actions (power-off on losing contact with FELIX servers) turned the
readout electronics off within a short time
• Standard streaming run conditions now include a 100-electron threshold,
working on confirming that hot-pixel masking is working in our full control
software
TPC (Ross)
• Spark protection electronics under final testing
• LV back on and monitoring run started
• Once HV can turn on safely, we will be interested in large field-on
cosmic dataset, potentially with silicon and calo.
HCal (Stefan)
• Still no signal seen when read out with DAQ
EMCal ()
TPOT ()
INTT (Genki)
• No news
sEPD(Tristan)
• Would like assistance taking test pulse data once DAQ issues resolved
Gas/Cooling ()
ZDC ()
Background Counters ()
Online Monitoring (Chris)

*********end of the minutes

Best regards,

Maya
