Dear sPHENIX

Here is the SCM minutes on August 8.

*************************

General (Stefan/Kin)

Current Priority Items (PC)

  • Make use of magnetic field, which we’ll have until Friday (maybe +weekend?) :  take data with tracking detectors:  TPC, MVTX, INTT, TPOT

Work Control Coordinators (Chris/Joel)

  • No new report

  • Working Water leak detection

  • S AC is not yet arrived

Plan of the Day (Stefan/PC/all–to be revisited at end of meeting)

  • Test of TPC spark protection

  • Cosmic run with HCal cosmic coincidence trigger in big partition with HCal, EMCal, INTT, TPOT, MVTX, TPC

========================================================================

Evening (Ross)

  • Ran cosmics with MVTX now also in big partition.  (MVTX 'prepare for run' needs to be pressed before run starts, 'end run' must be pressed after rc_end COMPLETES.  See elogs)

  • Alarms on annunciator (now with journal) did not seem to be updating

Night (Silas)

  • Ran cosmics with INTT, MVTX, TPOT, EMCal, HCal

  • Had to call cameron 3 times last night for current dips on l1_13, l2_12, l2_17

  • EMCal had to take out seb01, seb06

  • New issue found with switching from local to global if a run is ongoing, behavior noted in daq elog

Day ()

  • Not much!  Ran cosmics.  Took MVTX in and out for debugging.

  • People came by to measure magnetic field

  • Sal wanted to work on TPC crate 3A3 but deferred to next week so TPC could hopefully run with magnet on

========================================================================

Magnet (Kin)

  • Magnet at full field

  • After the Cryo SME (in BNL) has agreed, Roberto Than is now working to try to keep sPHENIX at ~100K after Magnet operation ends.  This may need further work (and approval).

MBD (Mickey)

  • Revived laser running.

  • Laser timing relative to MBD clock was shifted by about 10 ns for some reason, will try to debug why.  Both are driven by the same vGTM, so it shouldn’t happen.

  • Shift crew can stop monitoring MBD phase - it’s meaningless without beam.  Standing orders have been updated.

Trigger (Dan)

  • Nothing to report

GTM/GL1 (Martin/Dan/John K)

DAQ (Martin/John H)

MVTX (Cameron/Michael/Jo/Alex)

  • MVTX entered the big partition last night and we’ve been taking cosmics since 9pm

  • We have pixel masking, threshold tuning and auto-recovery working in streaming                          mode

  • Data rate seems to be 40.5 MB/s per server at 40 Hz

  • 9.5 TB recorded so far

One stave (L1_01) reported several errors, upon investigation this stave started reporting errors at 22:15:25 pm on Friday 4th of August which was 10 minutes into a run

  • Further investigation shows this stave is returning all 1 values. Fiber and signal cable were checked on the carriage and appear to be fine

  • We moved the signal and power cables to a new readout unit and the issue moved with the cables indicating the problem is either in the cable, the stave or the connection at the patch panel in the board.

  • We measured the resistance on the control and clock lines to be about 110 to 118 Ω on both this stave and its neighbour

  • The conclusion is we need to access the bore next week to investigate.

  • We have a spare signal cable run to the detector for any replacements.

Stave excluded from data taking for the time being

TPC (Tom Hemmick, Jin, Takao, Evgeny, Charles, David, Luke, Nick, John K., Bob, Ross)

  • Pushing HV towards operation point with both slow-control and fast spark protection

  • Getting close before the meeting, probably 50V away from operating point, with both laser and cosmic data monitoring during the operationrr

  • Collecting “spark” signal spectrum at each HV setting. Spark-system observed ADC spectrum, which include sparks and GEM action to heavy ionization.

  • Tuning threshold of trip for both spark protection system from a conservative to a acceptable trip protection rate

Switched TPC to use GTM0 and taking cosmic data at around 30Hz in standalone mode.

Joining big partition during the shift change meeting. Expect to take all 50Hz cosmic rate for TPC with no zero suppression and at 4-5GB/s

HCal (Silas)

  • Running with cosmics trigger, coincidence at rate of ~54 Hz

  • led pulse seems to be being cut off at the tail, center of pulse is around sample 8-10

EMCal (Sean)

  • Preparing to replace fuses on controller boards.

  • Anthony: Working to produce fully-calibrated data set with good runs from data already taken for QM. Will include calorimeters and MBD. Made an associated mattermost here: https://chat.sdcc.bnl.gov/sphenix/channels/calorimeter-calibrations

TPOT (Hugo)

  • Nothing to report on the detector

  • Working on getting event display together with INTT on cosmics,

  • Working on finalizing efficiency measurements

INTT (Genki)

  • After the short study last afternoon, INTT has been stably taking cosmic data since last night.

sEPD(Tristan)

  • Analyzed test pulse data - immediate signs of life in 355 out of 384

  • Working on taking test pulse data with single board at a time to look for crosstalk between channels

  • Stable data taking with 1.5 kHz forced accepts
