Dear sPHENIX
Here is the minutes from SCM on August 7, 2023.
*************************
General (Stefan/Kin)
We have two-person shifts. SL (and DO) covers the DAQ work.
Current Priority Items (PC)
Make use of magnetic field, which we’ll have until Friday +/- 1 day: take data with tracking detectors: TPC, MVTX, INTT, TPOT
Work Control Coordinators (Chris/Joel)
sEPD box will be installed next week
Plan of the Day (Stefan/PC/all–to be revisited at end of meeting)
Run big partition having MVTX at GTM-main
Once we run with MVTX, add other detectors
Test of TPC spark protection
Cosmic run with HCal cosmic coincidence trigger in big partition with HCal, EMCal, INTT, TPOT, MVTX(if possible)
========================================================================
Evening (Ross)
Trigger issues continue, so ran LEDs with HCal+Trigger expert advice.
experts attempted INTT+MVTX on GTM1, but had issues.
Night (Joey)
Extremely quiet shift
Continued long LED run inherited from previous shift
Handed off to day shift
Day (Tristan)
Stopped long LED run when RHIC reset RF system
DAQ development/fixing triggers since
Cable 4 water detected (above labyrinth entrance), Joel/Chris alerted and resolved
========================================================================
Magnet (Kin)
Magnet at full field.
We may not be able to keep the Magnet at at 100K after the 4K operation ends as they need to install the Blue Snake and we have one single valve.
MBD (Mickey)
Will request some time with the MBD to run Laser runs (Time TBD)
Trigger (Dan)
GTM/GL1 (Martin/Dan/John K)
We moved gtm(0) to V48, and were able to run the MVTX on it proper
We played some games with the timing. Dan fixed the (unrelated) trigger issue (a forgotten set instruction that needs to be run for it to work; it wasn’t after power cycle), and the timing here seems unchanged. So the remaining mystery is the timing shift for the Forced-Accepts that changed by 3 BCO ticks (which is a lot) - see my summary from this early morning in https://sphenix-intra.sdcc.bnl.gov/WWW/elog/DAQ/418
The plot shows the fixed cosmics trigger at work:The HCal West is currently back at 31 samples until we have the timing stuff fully investigated. It makes any pulse just easier to see.
DAQ (Martin/John H)
MVTX (Michael/Cameron)
We worked with Jaebeom, Martin and Joe M and we saw data with the MVTX using the main GTM in both global and local mode
We also worked on adding our setup scripts to execute on rc_begin
Big partition test after SCM
TPC (Tom Hemmick, Jin, Takao, Evgeny, Charles, David, Luke, Nick, John K., Bob, Ross)
Yesterday 08/06:
Connected fast spark protection to the HV system. The spark detection-strip speed is 40ms, which is 100x faster than the past with slow-control spark protection alone
Exercising fast spark protection system with one channel u604 alone with laser as standard candle
Today 08/07:
Exercising the fast spark protection system with all channels. So far working well: observed many spark/below-spark signals, issued trip command, no damage to GEM seen.
3A3-2 crate has problem with Slots 1-12 (slot 13-15 is still working)
Tristan + Charles tried flipping breaker - did not work
Charles called Steve Boose - he powercycled MP for 3A3-2 only
Problem is solved temporarily but may come back - Steve referred to Sal
Other weird things captured in monitoring runs:
GTM1 -> FELIX link interrupted at 9:31 AM, suspecting RHIC RF work was the cause
EBDC00 rebooted for no good reason at 3:17PM
Tomorrow - rest of the week:
Continue to exercise spark protection system (#1 priority)
Attempt to take field-on cosmic data
HCal (Silas)
Timing back in for LED pulse–unclear why/how it got out of time, but functional at 12 samples on the east
Have HCal cosmics triggers again
EMCal ()
TPOT (Hugo)
Nothing to report
INTT (Genki)
Raul recovered the detector this morning since it didn’t respond yesterday evening. We will try to take cosmic ray data after this meeting.
sEPD(Rosi/Tristan)
Checking functionality of the South Side Box
North side install next week (~Wednesday?)
Test pulse data taken
Gas/Cooling ()
ZDC ()
Background Counters ()
Online Monitoring (Chris)
Fixed run number and time inconsistency.
