Dear sPHENIX,
Here is the SCM minutes on August 11.
*************
General (Stefan/Kin)
RHIC (and AGS) will be deposted by next Mon./Tue. (=> no more Controlled Area until next run).
Current Priority Items (PC)
Make use of magnetic field, which we’ll have until Monday 5am : take data with tracking detectors: TPC, MVTX, INTT, TPOT, HCAL
Work Control Coordinators (Chris/Joel)
Joel: “The gas cooling panel sensors seem wired with a different configuration, and the PLC is getting the wrong data input. In other words, our barometric pressure and gas temperature sensors on the cooling panels will get rewiring to a 2-wire (loop-powered) input signal on Monday (08/14).
I'm coordinating with the team to be in place for commissioning this part of the TPC/TPOT gas system.”
Plan of the Day (Stefan/PC/all–to be revisited at end of meeting)
Work on the searching for TPC single pulse peak
Take the cosmic data with HCAL trigger with tracking detectors.
Observe the cosmic signal in MVTX
========================================================================
Evening (Virginia)
Took cosmics with Gl1, HCal, TPOT, INTT, MVTX
Very smooth running- one run went for 6.5 hours
TPC work throughout shift- added back in to big partition right at end of shift/beginning of owl shift
Several MVTX clock errors recovered successfully with button on GUI
Night (Silas)
One MVTX clock error ~4 hrs into running, recovered sucessfully
TPC running only as monitoring run
Trigger deadtime now ¼ of raw rate, has gotten worse by a factor of 2 since yesterday
Day (Christine)
Took cosmics and called experts
MVTX had a chiller turn off. No alarms. Digital current showed staves turning blue. Had to turn it off.
EMCal had a sector go bad, which will be masked out eventually
TPC experts were in working the entire time, but the TPC stayed in the run
TPC reset something which got the live time back up to half of the raw rate; GTM problem leading to live time of 50% not yet resolved
========================================================================
Magnet (Kin)
Magnet at full field until ~Monday morning.
MBD (Mickey)
Nothing to report
Trigger (Dan)
GTM/GL1 (Martin/Dan/John K)
Some back and forth with Joe about the apparent 45% dead time that we started to observe since yesterday, and also the elusive 4th Lemo input (wrongly labeled #2) that doesn’t want to make triggers.
DAQ (Martin/John H)
Nothing brand-new to report
MVTX (Cameron)
MVTX chiller DAQ2 CDU stopped around 11am during the cosmic run. This didn’t trigger an alarm on the annunciator and the chiller monitoring page values were repeating the final recorded value so everything looked good.
Eventual result was half the MVTX interlocked when the power unit temperature reached 30C and the shift crew called me.
We investigated and asked the crew to hit the emergency power off due to the large number of trips and errors
Upon getting to 1008 it was confirmed that this chiller flow had stopped and the chiller wasn’t responding on the web interface.
We’re still trying to get the chiller back up and running but at this stage there is a good chance that we’re air locked and need to purge.
MVTX BCO synchronized to INTT for recent cosmics runs in bit partition (Run 25475)
Exactly matching BCO via L1 trigger
No correlation between total MVTX and INTT hits see for now
Cosmic event display studies ongoing by Hao-Ren
Will discuss with INTT people for correlation studies
TPC (Tom)
Further HV test, and DAQ monitoring runs.
3A3-2 LV power supply source is down again (similar to a few days ago). Sal and Steve suspect loose wiring, and planned to check out with pull test after field off next week.
GEM debug contiues
HCal (Silas)
Nothing to report
EMCal (Sean)
Investigated SiPM bias problem that appeared monday with Sector 4, IB1. Measured a 6 kOhm resistive short on Vbias line (in sector). Most likely a failed SiPM. Probably not repairable. 1/384 (0.3% of detector)
Pedestal run is requested just before the magnet turning off, and then after magnet is off.
TPOT (Hugo)
Nothing to report
INTT (Genki/Rachid)
INTT is stably taking data.
Plan:
[Magnet ON] Keeping taking cosmic data with the magnet.
[Magnet ON] Taking noise data under the magnetic field in local mode with a random trigger. It doesn’t take a long time.
[Magnet OFF] Raul would like to test the stream readout with INTT in local mode (one day)
[Magnet OFF] We’d like to take cosmic data for some days so that we can compare data with/without the magnet.
[Magnet OFF] We’d like to perform some detector tests after taking cosmic data. It’s under discussion.
sEPD(Rosi)
Analyzed data taken with 30 ns pulse (signal corresponds roughly to 2 mips) - at this level no sign of cross-talk, but 2x channels that have some noise (it is odd in that it is not in every run, but in those that it exists there are many counts)
Other channels have no correlated noise with ADC > 25 ADC (i.e. well into the noise).
Data with 250 ns pulse (signal amplitude is ~10 mips) does show sign of cross talk, but this is an extreme example.
I will look at the data a little further, but I think it indicates unshielded cables should be fine.
