Hello,
There was a power outage since 13:17 this afternoon (Jan. 7, 2024) for part of the RHIC rings. Our PLC’s and other systems connected to the Normal/Emergnecy (N/E) Power switched off to the generator power. But most other things in 1008 (including the racks, the servers for the Ignition, Wifi, most lights …) are off. I got ~20 messages and then the CAS called me (when they happened to be checking on our mixing gas and found lights were off).
The CAS called the site supervisor who called the line crew to come in to investigate. I called PK Feng (in C-AD) who didn’t know. But PK called the line crew told me later on: ======================================================================================= Feeder 20 tripped on INSTANTANEOUS. It shut off 1006, 1008, 1010 and 1101. Generators are running. Tower line crews are on site. There is a tree falls at 1101. =======================================================================================
Just some minutes, after seeing nothing unusual, the line crew attempted to close the feeder. But unfortunately, it failed. They’ll trouble-shoot tomorrow morning. I heard this from PK and the CAS. ( There will be more people around and the new safety policy require ~ALD approval to work on the power line etc. )
We’ve had some tens of email exchanges among Joel Vasquez, Jim Mills, Frank Toldo and myself. We think we should be OK until tomorrow morning.
Joel actually drove back to 1008 to take a look. There is a computer in 1008 ---hooked to the N/E power, which can be used to check on the PLC status. But one can’t check it remotely. After Joel heard from me about the tree falling at 1101, he actually drove to take a look (though he couldn’t find anybody at that time). I attach one of the pictures that he sent me 😊
I just send this email to let you know. Because if you come to 1008 tomorrow morning, it’ll be dark and cold … ☹
