Hello,

For 1008, there are the choices of overhead line and underground line.  This morning just before 10 am, the line crew switched it over to the overhead line.
And so power is back in 1008.    Tom Baldwin (line crew) told me that if they're going to switch it back to the underground line, it should be "seamless" to us in 1008.

For 1006/1010, they don't have this overhead choice and so those two places still don't have power.   They have recently found a failed splice in manhole H23
(pointing towards 1006).  If this is the only problem, the power should be back tomorrow for these two places.   The compressor responsible for cooling the
sPHENIX Magnet is at 1010 and right now, we just let the temperatures drift.  ( But due to the good vacuum and vacuum is once again working, the Magnet
temperature MT01 seems to be very stable, though the temperatures for the Extension --- with much smaller mass --- are rising.  But we've experienced this before. )

We have just had a meeting at 1 pm.   We have decided to allow Joel Vasquez and his guy to continue the PLC downloading.  This work was originally planned for
Thursday/Friday but Joel made use of this "opportunity" to start downloading this morning.   Since the gas for TPC was changed to Ar yesterday after 13:17 due to the
power interruption, it'll take another 36-48 hours to cycle the operating Ar/CH4 and thus we can't do the TPC test anyway and therefore, we just let Joel continue this
test.

We're assembling the Contingency Box(es) for TPC in the meantime ...

All,

We were able to back feed 1008 from the 15Kv overhead line, 1008 is fully powered. We're drafting the switching orders to find the fault and it could take a few days to locate it.

Thanks Tom.

Do we know the cause of the outage and is there an ETA to the fix?

We have the site shift checking every few hours and hemos on call to fuel if needed.

Generator was still running when I came in this morning.   Wolfram

Tom,

Please note that 1008 is an active ODH area since the sPHENIX magnet is at liquid nitrogen temps. If the generator runs out of gas, it will mean an ASE violation for RHIC since it is keeping the RHIC ODH system operational. I will be traveling tomorrow, but Frank Craner is my delegate. Lee Hammons is also knowledgeable about the RHIC ASE implications.

Power Outage Affecting Several Buildings on the Lab Site

At approximately 1 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 7, the Lab experienced a localized power outage that resulted in a loss of power to Bldgs. 1006A, 1008A, 1010A, and 1101. Those buildings are currently being powered by generators while we work to identify the cause of the outage and remedy it.

It is possible that other buildings across the site were impacted by the outage, so if you arrive at work tomorrow and identify a problem, please contact your facility project manager or supervisor immediately to report it.
