Hi,
I just talked with Kathy Schwager and Kathy promised that they’ll avoid the area between 11:30 pm to 12:30 pm. They’ll shoot starting from around 8 pm and so midnight is the only time that’s a problem.
During their “work” (which is at night), the entire RHIC ring may be inaccessible.

Hi Kathy, Our shift start today in 1008 sPHENIX regardless of beam or not. We have 3 shifts. 8 am to 4 pm 4 pm to 12 midnight Midnight to 8 am They can call the control room to alert the shift crew not to leave. But what about the on coming shift. Will there be road blocks with BNL security? Will there be alternate routes for them to get to 1008?
Thanks

Marr, Gregory <gmarr AT bnl.gov> Hi Kathy, To answer your question, there are no shift changes overnight per se. However, at NSRL Bldg 958 (956 is the tunnel I don’t think we worry about deer or people in there) activities end around or before midnight Friday and Saturday evening. https://brookhavenlab.sharepoint.com/sites/C-AD_Portal/SitePages/Beam-Schedule.aspx Staff and users will be departing for the evening after beam operations are done. We cannot put a set time to that moment. They will be made aware of the situation, if not already.
The MCR will have at least one Operator on duty (x4662) throughout each night this weekend. Collider-Accelerator Support (CAS) will also be staffed 24/7 (x2024)
As for RHIC, this is the first I’m aware of Frank’s staff being in place 24/7. Frank will ensure that all the workers are aware of this situation lasting dusk to dawn, and ensure they contact MCR or the watch desk x2238 EVERY TIME they intend to enter the RHIC ring area, or depart service buildings where they are working.
Thanks, Greg

Good morning,
Just a reminder that deer management will begin this Friday evening 2/23. If we need to cancel a night due to weather or other factors you will be notified. As in years past, we will have security call the Main Control Room when USDA intends to enter the RHIC ring and in the vicinity of buildings 956 & 957 so you can notify any personnel in the area to remain indoors until the area is cleared. When USDA is working inside the forested area in the center of the ring, personnel can come and go from buildings. We aim to have as little impact to operations as possible. Are there any shift changes we need to know about so we can avoid the area?
Below is some language you can use to remind staff of the dates for the first weekend. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks so much for your help.
****Please distribute to all affected staff as necessary****
Staff are reminded that the Laboratory in cooperation with the US Department of Agriculture will be conducting deer management starting the afternoon of Friday 2/23 and ending early in the morning on 2/26. All activities will occur during the evening and overnight hours. Staff are asked to respect all road closures and security vehicles acting as blockades. If you need to be outdoors or need to travel to other buildings and have questions regarding the location of management activities, please contact the Central Alarm Station (x2238). If there are any general questions regarding deer management, please contact Kathy Schwager (x8471) or Tim Green (x3091).
Thank you for your attention to this.
Warm regards,
Kathy Schwager
