Commissioning and running of sPHENIX

Hi All,

Our first week of shifts will start next week, with the first training Tuesday (2/18) at 330 pm and the first first shift starting at 8 am on Wednesday.  At that point we will start flowing Isobutane and will be running 24/7.  Photos of our first week of shifters can be found at the bottom of this email.

Our first goals will be to get the subsystems up and running, and to continue progress on the TPC.  The run 24 operating system landscape needed to be upgraded (CentOS --> Alma 9, Debian 10--> Debian12), which broke a lot of scripts, so it will take some effort to get us back to fully running in the big partition.  The TPC needs cosmic data to continue commissioning the CAEN HV, in addition to the line laser work being done in parallel.  I ask that subsystem experts pay attention and be responsive to activities in 1008!

We completed a Valentine's day readiness review (Indico), stay tuned for a report on action items and points of success.  Subsystems can get ahead of the actions items by confirming their lists of oncall experts through the end of July (Expert List) and updating their standard operating procedures.

Please sign up for the remaining empty shifts!  I have had a number of questions sent to me.  Shifters must attend the Monday training before their shift, even if they did shift in Run 24.  Shifters are required to stay for the entirety of their Tuesday overlap shift.  If a shifter is sick, do not come to 1008, contact Run Coordination (Rosi, Ron) and the Period Coordinator, we will find a substitute!
