Abstract 1 : sPHENIX TPC membrane studies
sPHENIX is an ongoing upgrade to the PHENIX detector which is planned to explore the quark-gluon plasma formed in heavy ion collisions through the measurements of jets and upsilons at RHIC in the 2020’s. The experiment will feature a charged particle tracking system along with electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters and also a 1.5 Tesla superconducting solenoid magnet. A Time Projection Chamber with a GEM-based readout will form the core of the sPHENIX tracking system. The central membrane of the TPC is one of the most important parts of the TPC and several simulation studies ranging from tracking performance of single particles to jet fragmentation studies were done with different proposed designs of the TPC membrane. The details of these extensive simulation studies on the sPHENIX TPC membrane will be presented here.
Abstract 2 : sPHENIX TPC beam test results
The Time Projection Chamber (TPC) in an ongoing sPHENIX upgrade will play a vital role in tracking charged particles in order to measure all three states of Upsilon and also Jet Physics to understand quark-gluon plasma. The sPHENIX TPC has total length of 211 cm and outer radius of 78 cm spanning phase space of full azimuth and 2.2 units in pseudo rapidity. The sPHENIX Time Projection Chamber prototype has undergone test beam at Fermilab during 2018 and 2019 which were important steps in order to understand the performance TPC with different gas mixtures, readout Gas Electron Multiplier modules and electronics. Both 2018 and 2019 TPC beam test had different gas mixtures and electronics. The results from these two beam test will be presented here.
Abstract 3: sPHENIX TPC Gas Electron Multiplier R&D
The sPHENIX detector will have Gaseous Electron Multiplier (GEM) based Time Projection Chamber(TPC) as an outer tracking detector with total length of 211 cm and outer radius of 78 cm spanning phase space of full azimuth and 2.2 units in pseudo rapidity. Space charge due to the accumulation of less mobile positive ions within the TPC volume is considered one of the most important factors in determining the performance of GEM-based TPC in Heavy Ion collision environment. The avalanche stage of the GEMs themselves produce positive ions moving in the opposite direction to the avalanche electrons which is also known as Ion Back Flow. It is quite important to reduce the IBF in order to achieve optimum performance from the GEM based Time Projection Chamber. However reducing IBF causes deterioration in energy resolution. Several R&D projects with GEMs have been performed along with simulation for reducing the IBF without compromising energy resolution. The results of these R&Ds with GEMs and also simulation results will be presented.

we will have an abstract submission due date for QM2019 (http://qm2019.ccnu.edu.cn/) and DNP (https://dnp2019.columbian.gwu.edu/) on Monday, July 01, i.e., in about three days from now. I would like to ask anyone who wants to present (orally or poster) at either of these conferences on topics concerning the sPHENIX TPC to prepare an abstract and send it to this list. We will meet with the L2 level manager (Tom) and all L3 level managers tomorrow after the fortnightly meeting via BlueJeans and discuss which abstracts we should eventually submit to the conferences. Sorry for the late notice.
