Thank you for the question,
Yes, R is the robust variance and it's a function of the charged particle multiplicity. We haven't tried fitting this quantity as a function of dN/deta. To do this as a function of energy we would need the efficiency corrected dN/eta of all charged particles as a function of energy. We did publish these fits as a function of Npart, hence I followed suit, but this this something we could try in the future.
