Hello Everyone,
Good news!! The report from the chemistry lab has arrived. The water contamination in the remaining NOVEC liquid from the opened drum is
well below 90 ppm (as required for safe operations according to the 3M experts).
We provided the chemists with three samples: 1) from the top layer of the opened drum (Sample A TOP), 2) from the bottom of the opened drum (Sample B BOT) and, 3) from a newly
opened small NOVEC container (Sample C SML). All the samples have been checked twice and found to have water contaminations at the level of 41-44 ppm. This level of contamination is permissible for safe operations as per our previous communication with the
3M experts.
So, we can go ahead and use the NOVEC from the opened drum for the upcoming run.
We're grateful to our colleagues from the Neutrino and Nuclear Chemistry group of the Chemistry Department at BNL.
Regards,
Prithwish

Hello Prithwish,I hope you are doing well. I have finished analyzing the three samples that you gave us. I ran two Karl Fischer titration measurements for each of the three bottles that you provided i.e. one sample was collected from the top and bottom of the each bottle. Below are the results:Sample A BOT:Measurement 1: water content = 43.98 ppmMeasurement 2: water content = 44.89 ppmSample B TOP:Measurement 1: water content = 42.22 ppmMeasurement 2: water content = 43.23 ppmSample C SML:Measurement 1: water content = 41.98 ppmMeasurement 2: water content = 41.79 ppmTo check the accuracy, I also ran a sample of one of our organic solvents which should have a water content between 60 to 80 ppm and the measured water quantity for that liquid was 63.18 ppm. So it seems the measured values can be trusted. Please let me know if you have any further questions.Best Regards,SasmitSasmit GokhaleResearch AssociateBrookhaven National LabBuilding 555Upton, NY 11973Phone: 631-344-4992Email: sgokhale AT bnl.gov
