thank you for your comments, I fully agree. I have decided to omit the reference of heavy-ion collisions, which is not the focus of this study. I have implemented your comments in the new version (v3).

The first statement is a bit of a tautology -- "The study of []...is of great interest in understanding []". Maybe "The study of quarkonium production in p+p collisions is of great interest in understanding the relative importance of mechanisms that contribute to its formation, which is an outstanding question" or something like that. This formulation would probably require breaking the mention of heavy-ion collisions to a separate sentence, especially because it would fit better this way with the sentence which comes after (you might be able to merge those two).

"during Run17" is unnecessary and can be removed.
