Hi all,
As you have all made progress in updating their I&I scope, we've identified a new effort package that can help you to further refine the categorization of I&I effort as you put together your prioritizations. We're referring to this as "Delayable Scope".
This is intended to cover those activities which are important and for which specific US expertise is necessary (so they are not "offloadable" to other groups) but which could be delayed to a later date with manageable modifications to the ATLAS Phase-2 plans.
Of course, this does not solve the issue of total funding needed - the work still has to be done - but it does stretch out the budget profile, which might be an effective response to short-term loss of funding.
Examples of activities that might fall into this category are trigger algorithms that are not absolutely required on day-1 of Run 4. Installation activities in the Pit would probably *not* be a good candidate for Delayable Scope, since they need to happen
before ATLAS closes.
Like the "Offloadable Scope", "Delayable Scope" activities would be included in the baseline request (with their current timing). But would be an option to consider if we don't get the funding we need. We would *not* need to specify the actual timescale
for the delayed scope yet. For this exercise, it will be enough to identify the amount of funding that could be deferred.
For your reference, I've included a slide summarizing all of the "Effort Packages" we foresee. I've included the "Delayable Scope" package in the Categories tab of the I&I
sandbox. Please feel free to use this category for any activities you think might naturally fall into it.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Thanks - Hal
