I asked Pasquale what they did at Ansaldo to test the BaBar solenoid, and I asked him about possibly coming to BNL for a day or two at some point:

John,

so, very soon, you will have the coil in your lab. That's very
good.

Coming to the test, we did a partial test at Ansaldo without the iron yoke.
The current was limited at 1/3 of the nominal current just for avoiding
problems with magnetic forces. However some not negligible
fring field was present (you need a large area around the coil
free of magnetic materials and limited access)..

Next year I will have to go to Fermilab. If you inform me about your plans
I can try to couple visit to Fermilab with a visit to BNL
