Hi,

In case you worry about the radiation, it's not really high.  We can see the radiation doses on the radiation posting tomorrow when I escort some of you to
that area at 2 pm tomorrow.

The place is next to the ERL and they put a rope to make a small corner "Controlled Area with TLD required".   But this is now when
ERL now is not running.  When ERL operates, that small corner may be changed to "Radiation Area", especially when they need to
move the shielding block.

Further from that small corner is mostly empty as you may see but the concrete blocks might have more radiation ...  Though it's possible
to rope this or that area to be "Controlled Area with TLD", it's prone to error.   Paul Bergh is thinking and talking with people.  ( But you
may still need to take the Access training for the "Controlled Area with TLD" ... ) 

I think like what Ed thought/said, it's just simpler that we all take the RW1/Access trainings ... Otherwise, suddenly ERL (if it ever runs)
gives out high radiation, we suddenly will have do some more training or something  ...

Bldg. 912 in general is an area with radiation, just what level it's at (Radiation Area or Controlled Area with TLD ...).  I guess people who know think that it's obvious.
I have attended only two meetings.  I only think about this only now.

That huge building is mostly Radiation Area, no matter where you move, unless you want to move it outside the building.  ( I guess everybody knows that 912 used to be
the area we had all sorts of AGS experiments going on in good old days ... )  And I understand that  that place in Bldg. 912 is where the cold test will be --- though we'll
move the magnet a bit.

   but since we moved to RHIC, CAD User Training was all that

Babar magnet is a "CAWT" area.  But it's
probably complicated and difficult.  Because you may step into the
Radiation Area without knowing ... and the ERL may be running
soon and there is a small chance that the "CAWT" may become "Radiation
Area".   (  Even for a CAWT, you may still need the "C-AD User
Training"  and GERT to get the TLD. )

I wonder how many of you don't have the Radiation Worker 1 training.  We
can arrange C-A Access Training (the C-AD User training
for STAR/PHENIX physicists are not really that suitable) specially for
this task.

To just to take a look, I can escort you --- I've done before ... but
you can't work but just "observe".


Ed Lessard gave me a 5-10 minute lecture which has made me feel very
important.  He's worried that there are 3 groups of people (C-AD,
Physics and Superconducting Magnet Div.) working in the Radiation area
(or any area).   So, it's my job to (try to) make sure that
we don't have any "incident"/"accident" ...

So, we (... a lot of involvement D. Phillips here) may certainly need to
do some work planning with our Work Control Manager Peter Cirnigliaro.
And we also need to pass Y. Makdisi's Expt. Safety Review Comittee ...

In this aspect, I'm like the so-called  Liaison Physicist (if not a
safety officer) ...

The bottom line is that there will be rules / regulations in C-AD that
you need to observe and deal with before you can come to work in Bldg. 912.
They may not be difficult but we can't ignore them :-)

If there is anything unclear, please come to talk to me and I'll try to
sort this out.
