Mike, thanks for the update.
Below are the minutes of today’s meeting
Attendees: Elke, Han-Sheng, Krishan, Prithwish, Rahul, Te-Chuan, Xu, Zhenyu
0. T-board and Inner signal cables
See Mike’s email for the current status/plan. A short summary, expect to get
the test cables and v3.0 T-board by Jan 24, 2020. Also reminded everyone the
plan for hybrid: Jianing ordered hybrids from two vendors and the delivery
expected around Christmas time. Jianing will send the hybrids and extra two
connectors to Yi. Yi will assemble 4 outer hybrids from the old vendor, and 4
inner+4 outer hybrids from the 2nd vendor. These together with the 6
assembled inner hybrids from the old vendor should give us enough hybrids for
prototype module assembly.
1. Cooling rack maintenance - Rahul
Rahul has scheduled a phone meeting next Monday with Jim Kelsey and Jason
Bessuille to discuss the cooling rack maintenance work. Rahul will try to
understand the scope of the work, parts should be ordered, and then decide on
the dates that Jason and his tech should come to BNL to service the rack
together with Rahul and Bill Struble.
2. Integration - Rahul
John Scheblein is working 50% for STAR, which is dedicated to sTGC gas system
design at the moment. STSG has opened a designer position, who will work on
FST integration design when he/she starts.
Also discussed installing 1-2 FST prototype modules into STAR in Run20. FST
group will write down what the potential benefits are, discuss with Rahul
about where exactly to put the modules (*), and Rahul will tell us how much
efforts are needed in order to do so. These will be used as inputs to aid the
discussion and decision on whether or not to actually do this. For *, Rahul
will send the conceptual design of the structure for installing a few sTGC
modules and Pre-shower in front of the calorimeter in 2020.
3. Mechanical structure - Yi
3rd version of mechanical structures were delivered by EASTON. The changes
w.r.t. v2 includes 1) a new type of PEEK+30% CF material that flow better
during injection and thus less bending than the old type material 2) remove
the center part of the outer region. The data from one set of the structures
indicates bending around 500 and 700 microns for inner and outer region
structures, respectively. The former seems to be worse than the previous
version and Yi will try to find out the explanation from EASTON.
Moving forward, Yi is going to ask EASTON to increase the thickness of the
structure from 1.5mm to 2mm, which EASTON expects to improve the bending
issue. This will take 1.5-2 weeks to see the results. Yi will also discuss
with AIDC next Monday is to add CF sheets to increase the stiffness and thus
improve the surface flatness. Yi agreed that we will have a meeting to
discuss his findings next Monday 3:30pm BNL time.
Han-Sheng is working on a new Thermal-Stress simulation with the latest
design, and may report next week.
4. Soft cooling tube - Yi
Yi has quotes for soft cooling tubes that are made of two different kinds of
materials, both of which are recommended by the vendor to work with NOVEC. He
will order them and look into how to set up a test stand at NCKU with these
tubes. We will also check with Flemming to see where we stand in terms of
irradiation at BNL with these tubes.
5. Simulation - Te-Chuan, Krishan
Te-Chuan is working on implementing the new FST geometry into AgML. He thinks
he can finish in two weeks and will give a report next week.
After the meeting, Krishan contacted Daniel, and got instructions on how to
install and run the new Tracking code.
