Hi Gustaaf,

6.8.2 and 6.8 have been entered. For 6.8.3, the explanation of the cost variance is provided here:

The positive CV is driven by two factors: the unavailability of engineering resources and project task efficiency.  Engineering resources have been reduced or delayed by three influences: University hiring restrictions due to COVID-19, loss of engineering effort, and demands of other projects. The delay in task completion due to reduced resources is associated with a lower spending rate.  In addition, there are several instances in which firmware implementation required less time than anticipated.  In these cases, on-schedule tasks required lower funding. Both of these factors lower project spending, giving rise to a CPI larger than 1.

Thanks,

Stephanie & Jinlong

Hello all,

A friendly reminder that March variance reports are due!

Here are some comments:

-6.4: nothing yet!?

-6.5: typo do => due; (other comments are in L3 parts below)
*6.5.1: the cumulative SV is below $100k, so no need to comment on
that (and we generally only comment when required); for the corrective
action I would replace "The variance will be corrected " with "The
accruals will be corrected "
*6.5.3: it's perfectly ok to copy from previous months, but is "The
pre-MREFC phase of the project is now nearing completion. " still accurate?

-6.6 and 6.6.1 are missing
*6.6.3: what does the irradiation have to do with the cost variance?
"We did not hire an engineer and most design/test work was done by our
students. " is very problematic: to explain the contribution from
scientific labor, iit had to be made clear that there are two *distinct*
categories of work: one done by engineers and techs, and one done by
physicists, and these do not overlap.  If the students in question are
engineering students we're ok, but in any case we cannot write that.
Also, does that amount to $140k?
*6.6.5: maybe explicitly say September 2021 and November 2021?

-6.8 and 6.8.2 are missing
*6.8.3: NSF doesn't want it, so no need to put it in IPD, but can you
comment by email on the positive cost variance?

Thanks!

Gustaaf
